Life drawing questions?
Essential answers before you draw, pose or organise a session.
Questions
What is life drawing?
Life drawing is an artistic practice in which a person poses to be observed and drawn, painted or sculpted. Poses may be short or long, clothed or nude depending on the session. Stance is dedicated to this adult artistic and educational practice.
Who is Stance for?
Stance is for artists looking for references or posing sessions, models who want to pose for artists, and studios, schools, groups or organisers that run life drawing sessions.
What is the difference between reference photos and live posing?
Reference photos are pose series you can study at your own pace. A live session lets you work with a real model in real time and request an angle, duration or new pose.
How does a live posing session work?
Choose a session or an available model, then work remotely with the person posing. The exact format, duration and price depend on the selected session or model.
How do I find life drawing near me?
Use the worldwide Stance directory to browse by city or country. Venue pages show available practical information, disciplines, known schedules or sessions, and the date on which the source was checked.
What if there is no session in my city?
You can use reference photos or remote live posing. The directory also grows as organisers add venues and events.
How do I become an art model or publish a session?
Choose “Model” to create a life model profile. If you run sessions, create a “Venue / organiser” account: you can create or claim your venue and then publish events in the directory.
Do I need to be a professional model?
Expectations vary by artist and venue. A clear profile, reliable information and the ability to hold useful drawing poses matter more than a professional label. Organisers may set their own criteria.
Does life drawing always involve nudity?
No. A session may be clothed, nude or mixed depending on the artistic project and listing. The context should remain artistic or educational, and Stance is intended for adults.
Can I freely publish or reuse images and artwork made from a session?
Usage rights depend on the content, the session context and the applicable agreement. Before publishing or using material commercially, check the conditions attached to the reference or session and, where needed, the model’s permission.
What does “Source verified…” mean in the directory?
It shows when Stance checked the source used for that listing. It helps indicate freshness but does not replace confirming details directly with the venue before travelling.
How do I report a problem or incorrect information?
Directory listings include a way to report incorrect information. Inside Stance, use the available reporting tools if content, a profile or an interaction raises a concern.
